Choosing Between Drupal and WordPress

Choosing Between Drupal and WordPress

WordPress and Drupal are the two most popular open-source content management systems, and both can power everything from blogs to enterprise portals. The right choice depends on your team, your budget and your content structure.

WordPress shines when you want to move fast. Its theme and plugin ecosystem is unmatched, the admin is friendly for non-technical editors, and most hosting providers offer one-click installs. For marketing sites, blogs and small stores, it is usually the quickest path.

Drupal excels at structured content and complex permissions. If you need multilingual content workflows, granular user roles, or content models with dozens of relationships, Drupal's architecture handles it gracefully. Large organizations and institutions often choose it for exactly this reason.

The trade-off is complexity. Drupal has a steeper learning curve and typically requires developer involvement, while WordPress can be run by a small team with minimal training.

Our advice is pragmatic: start with WordPress unless you already know you need Drupal's advanced content modeling. Migration between the two is possible, but it is far cheaper to choose well at the beginning.

Whichever platform you pick, both catalogues are fully covered in our store — modules for Drupal and plugins for WordPress, all with the same licence terms and support.
